2017 Special Election Elected 63 – 37
This is an effort to elect Democrats, especially in places where it counts. If there are ways you can help, great. If you decide you would rather not get these notes, reply and tell me.
Electing Manka Dhingra (http://www.electmanka.com/) to the state Senate in Washington would make a statewide and a national difference.
The State of Washington has a Democratic Governor — Jay Inslee. The Democrats have a majority in the Washington House of Representatives and they should have a majority in the Senate, but they do not. Now the Democrats have an opportunity to gain a majority through a special election in November, 2017.In this 49 seat legislative body, there are 25 Democrats and 24 Republicans. Unfortunately, one Democrat votes with and organizes with the Republicans. Now a Republican held seat — SD – 45 is vacant. Andy Hill, an extremely popular Republican in a Democratic oriented district, has died. He has been replaced temporarily by a Republican. This is a district that went 65-28 for Hillary and 58-45 for Obama in 2012.
The Democrats have a strong candidate — Manka Dhingra. She is a County Prosecutor and describes her family history as follows: Her grandmother spoke out against domestic violence in India. A great aunt was a UN representative for women at conferences in Beijing and New York. Another great aunt worked in an Indian refugee camp and then in rural villages with women and children.
If she wins the election for SD-45, she will become the 25th Democrat in the state Senate, making progressive legislation much more possible with the House, Senate, and Governorship in the hands of Democrats.
