Where I live now: New York, NY, Carolyn Maloney (NY 12), former teacher, administrator, and city councilor, and Member of Congress since 1992 has just bee appointed Acting Chair of the House Oversight Committee (the committee responsible for overseeing the administration).
I moved here from Deerfield, Massachusetts. Deerfield is now represented by Jim McGovern (MA 02) the Chair of the House Rules Committee. A young political junkie and an aide to the savvy Congressman Joe Moakley, he was elected a Member of Congress since 1996.=
Deerfield used to be in Massachusetts’ First Congressional District. If it were still in that district, it would be represented by Richie Neal (MA 01) former mayor of Springfield, MA, elected to Congress in 1988. He is now Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee.
I went to college and lived and taught mostly in Boston’s western suburbs. They are now represented by Joe Kennedy III (MA 04). A grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, he was elected to Congress in 2012. Now running for the US Senate against incumbent Ed Markey.
I was born in Providence and grew up in Cranston, RI. I’ll claim Providence’s Congressman, David Cicilline (RI 01) even thought Cranston is no longer in the district. I remember his mother in Cranston. He is a former mayor of Providence and was elected to Congress in 2010. Now he is Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.
Gather Carolyn Maloney, Jim McGovern, Richie Neal, and David Cicilline in one room. That would be a lot of fire power in the House of Representatives.
