Recently, Bernie complained about the Center for American Progress (CAP). Their blog ThinkProgress mocked Bernie for condemning billionaires. He used to condemn millionaires and billionaires. Recently, he just condemned billionaires. Bernie, CAP said, had become a millionaire selling his book.

Is this John Podesta’s fault? He founded the Center for American Progress. He was Chairman of the DNC when its bias toward Hillary got in the way of fairness. We know this because John Podesta was phished as part of the Russian hacking of the DNC.

Is there any accountability? If you don’t turn on the alarm system, it is not your fault your house is burgled. It is the burglar’s fault. But your spouse might remind you to turn on the alarm system every time you leave the house.

The Democrats’ task, as they prepare for 2020, is to run a competitive process without destroying party unity. It is maddening to have ThinkProgress mock Bernie and then explain they report the news fairly.

And if you think that Bernie’s views are so contrary to the values of the Democratic Party, you can’t afford to play fair? Really? His views are more contrary to the values of the Democratic Party than Donald J. Trump’s?

I am not a fan of Bernie’s. I was a Hillary supporter in 2016. But Bernie’s got a point. Not only does he deserve fairness within the party; we all deserve fairness. We need competitive primaries that do not destroy party unity.

John Podesta is no longer Chairman of the DNC or of CAP. He is an important figure on CAP’s Board. Call on him, and the rest of the CAP Board. Demand fairness within the organization. We all need that, not just Bernie.
