Mel Hall went to Taylor University and Seminary. He graduated as a Methodist minister and volunteered to be sent to Detroit. With a wife and, eventually, two young boys, he served in one of Detroit's poorest neighborhoods for seven years. Mel Hall left Detroit with a new understanding of the world, ready to do something different. He became, as he tells the story, employee number 34 of the start up medical care firm Press Ganey. Ultimately, he owned and ran the company.

Lauren Baer s a product of a Florida furniture family. She went to Harvard and graduated magna cum laude. She won a Marshall and went to Oxford. She went to Yale Law School. There are lots of opportunities for someone with that kind of pedigree. She clerked in the 2nd circuit of the US Court of Appeals and became an associate at Wilmer Hale doing international work. Lauren Baer worked for Hillary Clinton's and John Kerry's State Department. While working for Madeiline Albright in the private sector, she geared up for a Congressional Campaign.

Kathy Manning and her husband did not limit themselves to Jewish organizations. They have supported civic centers, the arts, and the effort to make Greensboro into a thriving city. Their civic and communal interests precede any political interests. Kathy Manning describes herself as a business-oriented moderate Democrat.

came to Ohio from India as a three year old. Her parents struggled, then thrived. Her father was an engineer, her mother a social worker. Heral went to medical school. Hiral Tipirneni married to a fellow student. After completing residencies, they chose Phoenix as a place to settle. Her husband joined an orthopedics practice; she worked in ERs. Personal experiences changed Hiral Tipinerni's life. Her mother died of cancer. A nephew died of cancer. Hiral Tipirneni turned to cancer research. Work in cancer research moved her into the public life of the community. She was a leader of research teams, served on boards, was involved in public advocacy, worked to affect the character and quality of life in her community.

Billie Sutton is accustomed to risk and politics. Risk: Billie Sutton went to college and made a name in college rodeo. He came out of the University of South Dakota with more rodeo points than any participant in the sport before him. One risk went bad. He had a rodeo accident that caused lower body paralysis. Politics: Billie Sutton followed his grandfather's example. He ran for the state legislature, became Deputy Minority Leader, then Minority Leader in rapid order. His grandfather's campaign manager is still around. Billie Sutton's grandfather's campaign manager's son is the Sutton Campaign Treasurer.

Political Note #95 Joseph Kopser TX 21

Joseph Kopser volunteered to serve in Iraq. Convinced the Bush administration did not have a plan to succeed there, he hoped to be part of a plan that would succeed. He helped organize elections to replace the old regime. Those elections were not a solution. Genuine elections turned out to be impossible. So he sought combat. He joined the First Cavalry Division, fought, and lost friends in Iraq and Afghanistan. He carried on, dismayed with America's leadership in the war. When he returned home and to civilian life, he co-founded a technology company (for commuter navigation), served as CEO, sold it to Daimler Benz. Not long after that, he turned to politics.
