2018 General Election Lost 62 — 32

Implausible, but take a look

Jenny Wilsonhttps://wilsonforsenate.com/is appealing.  But she is a Democrat in Utah.

Jenny Wilson comes from a political family.  But she is a Democrat in Utah.

Jenny Wilson has experience in Congress and experience in local politics.  But she is a Democrat in Utah.

Jenny Wilson is a fifth generation Utahan.  But she Democrat in Utah.

Jenny Wilson is running for the Senate against Mitt Romney.  Some Utahans think Mitt Romney is a hero.  He saved the Olympics from corruption  She is a Democrat in Utah.

Look at Jenny Wilson.  She is a Councilwoman in Salt Lake County.  Her father was once the mayor of Salt Lake City.  She has a record of her own.

Jenny Wilson has been elected twice to an at-large seat on the County Council.  One third of the people in Utah live in Salt Lake County where she received a majority of the vote twice. Her record on the Council is admirable.  In 2004, Jenny Wilson and a newly elected Republican worked together to pass ethics reform for the County Council. Reform included campaign finance limits, the elimination of car allowances, an oath-like commitment by new employees to behave ethically, and a council commitment to go beyond state requirements to have open meetings.

Jenny Wilson led a fight for equal benefits for all County employees.  She got those equal benefits, including health benefits for the partners and families of County LGBTQ employees. Jenny Wilson was the first woman elected to the Salt Lake County Council.  She is a Democrat in Utah.

Jenny Wilson’s private sector work was as a public relations and media consultant.  She has worked for the Sundance Institute and Film Festival and for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.  Those are the Olympics Mitt Romney “saved.”

Jenny Wilson‘s public sector work was in Congress.  She was press secretary for Democrat Les Aucoin from Oregon.  She was chief of staff for Democrat Bill Orton from Utah.  She does not tire of explaining that Orton was a conservative “Blue Dog” Democrat. She is a Democrat in Utah.Look at Jenny Wilson’s campaign positions.  She has eight priorities:

  • Eliminate the power of lobbyists and tax the wealthy rather than ordinary Utahans.
  • Stop tearing immigrant families apart. Don’t deport immigrants who came to the US as children.  Welcome the immigration reform GW Bush wanted.
  • Don’t move backward on health care. Focus on mental health and the opioid crisis.
  • Oppose shrinking Utah’s National Monuments.
  • Free and fair trade. No trade wars
  • Maintain urban Utah’s prosperity while helping rural areas. Utah’s rural areas are in desperate straits.
  • Fairness and civil rights for all Utahans include the LGBTQ community, women, and Native Americans.
  • Focus on green energy and adherence to EPA requirements to improve Utah’s air quality

Look at Utah.

Utah is very conservative.  It is not Trump territory.  In 2016, Donald Trump won the state with 45.5% of the vote. Utah had its own third party candidate — ex CIA man Ewen McMillan who received 21.5% of the vote.  Hillary Clinton got 27.5% of the vote.   Is Utah Romney territory?

Jenny Wilson is a Democrat.  What kind of Republican can she make of Mitt Romney?  What kind of Republican will Mitt Romney make of himself?

Mitt Romney was a Never Trumper. He says he voted for his wife for President in 2016.  Nevertheless, we all watched Romney show up for dinner with Trump hoping to be named Secretary of State.  Wealthy as he is, heroic as he may have seemed with regard to the Olympics, Romney was a chump for Trump.

What kind of Republican was Romney in Massachusetts?  He seemed liberal enough to appeal to Democrats.

What kind of a Republican was he when he ran for President.  He was the kind whose core vision distinguished the “takers” from the “makers”.  Does that appeal to Utahans?

Jenny Wilson knows that if she is to have achance to win, she has to remove Mitt Romney’s hero halo.  Her campaign is critical of Romney, but not for his vision or his changeability.  She criticizes Romney for aspiring to make a national impact.  She says he is uninterested in Utah, doesn’t know Utah, is uninterested in helping Utahans.

Jenny Wilson lets Utahans come to their own conclusion about Romney’s vision and changeability.  She does not raise a question about whether he still has national ambitions.  Instead, Jenny Wilson is clear that she is a Utahan interested in what is best for Utah. She makes sure that Utahans know that Mitt Romney is interested in something else.

If Democrats are going to gain control of the US Senate, there may need a surprise or two.  Jenny Wilson https://wilsonforsenate.com/ could be a surprise.  Start with herMake a donation.  Make a bigger donation than you intended.
