Politico Playbook reports today that the Scottish newspaper The Scotsman has reported “Trump ‘frustrated’ at inability to pursue ‘foreign investment’ deals, says Trump Org executive,” by Martin McLaughlin: “Donald Trump’s most senior executive in the UK has said the Trump family is feeling frustrated at being unable to pursue ‘foreign investments’ and overseas business opportunities, while also revealing that ‘everybody in the Trump Organisation is going to write a book.’
How many people reading this statement sees this as a route out for Donald J. Trump? If he cannot stand the heat. If he thinks he might be convicted (not just impeached), especially if he can make a deal to forestall criminal prosecutions…..Maybe if he is assured that he can cash in on his acquiescence to Russia and Turkey.
Maybe all of those things. He has a route out of the presidency. He could say: I want to go back to being a businessman. There are a lot of opportunities to make billions outside of the United States. I can’t do that while I’m president. I resign.
