Washington State Governor Jay Inslee announced his candidacy for President. He differentiated himself from the rest of the Democratic candidates. Climate change, he said, is the issue we all face. A life or death issue – for the planet. An issue like no other.
He has acknowledged the importance of the other issues important to his fellow Democratic Presidential candidates — fair immigration policies, adequate health care, income inequality, affordable housing . . . and more.
However, in an overheated planet immigration will morph into mass migration, health care availability will be sharply reduced, income inequality will become more profound. Even the richest will suffer. Housing of any kind will be nearly impossible to find. Forget the idea of affordability. ‘Climate deniers’ are at war with their grandchildren – and ours. If the effort to beat climate change is lost, all of those issues will be mere side effect of a fatal disease.
Jay Inslee’s pursuit of climate action deserves support. Even if we find other candidates attractive, his message has got to be brought forward.
We recall Hillel, asked to teach a prospective convert about Torah while standing on one leg said “That which is hateful unto you do not do to your neighbor. This is the whole of the Torah, The rest is commentary”
So, too, about climate change. That which will be fatal to you, to your neighbor, and to the planet we all live in. This is the whole of what we face. The rest is commentary.
Jay Inslee has my support. I hope others will join me.
