Republicans began June defeating an extremist Republican Member of Congress (Steve Knight of Iowa).  They ended June replacing a conventional Members of Congress (Scott Tipton of Colorado) with an extremist gun toting follower of QAnon (Lauren Boebert).

Republicans and Democrats began the month nominating they expected to nominate.  In Indiana Republican State Senator Victoria Spartz will face Democratic State Rep Christina Hale.

In Iowa, Theresa Greenfield will oppose incumbent Joni Ernst for the US Senate.  In Montana, Steve Bullock will oppose incumbent Steve Daines.  Both Democrats have a decent chance to help flip the Senate. Look them up. Support them.  Also in Montana, Lt. Governor Mike Cooney won the opportunity to run for governor against Congressman Greg Gianforte, one of the more odious Republicans who earned national fame for assaulting a reporter.  In West Virginia, plaintiff’s attorney and civic leader Ben Solango, won the opportunity to run against the incumbent Republican Governor. Each gubernatorial candidates was a more conventional candidate than his primary opponent.

One of several non-white candidates to win. Primaries, Teresa Leger Fernandez won a contest in New Mexico for a safe Democratic seat.  In New York, Ritchie Torres in NY 15, Mondaire Jones in NY 17 each won primaries for safe Democratic seats.  The same is true for Jamaal Bowman, NY 16, but in his case he defeated long-time incumbent Eliot Engel.

In the Northeast, there were also primaries for competitive seats.  Pennsylvania State Auditor Eugene DePasquale has a reasonable chance to defeat incumbent Scott Perry.  Christine Finello, who needs resources, was nearly tied with incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick.  In New York, Dana Balter won a chance for another try at incumbent Republican John Katko and Tedra Cobb had no opposition in her effort for another try at Trump favorite Elise Stefanik.

Democratic incumbents will face some serious opposition as well.  In New York, Democrat Anthony Brindisi will face Claudia Tenney, who he ousted from Congress.  In Pennsylvania, Susan Wild, a Republican target, will face Republican Party favorite Lis Sheller.

June ended with Diane Mitsch nominated again in Colorado, but this time to run against radical right Lauren Boebert who had defeated the incumbent.  Colorado nominated former Governor John Hickenlooper to run for the Senate against incumbent Cory Gardner, generally seen as the Republican Senator most likely to lose his seat.  In Kentucky, Veteran Pilot Amy McGrath eked out a victory against Charles Booker to take on the tougher task of defeating Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell.  In a positive sign for McGrath, in a special election, Karen Berg flipped a Republican state senate seat.

We’ll take every positive sign we can get.  All four June Democratic Senate nominees are important figures in the effort to flip the US Senate.
