2018       General Election       Elected 58 – 42

We know who the Democratic candidate will be in 2018 in House of Representative districts that Democrats won by small margins in 2016.  Whatever early support these candidates can get will be helpful and will allow us to focus on winning Republican seats later when we know who the Democratic candidate will be.

There is a possibility, however, that, because of lawsuits, by the time people are voting in November, 2018, central Florida’s seventh congressional district will look different from the way it looks now even though it was already redrawn for the 2016 election.  Stephanie Murphy is too interesting to wait and see what the district will look like and her victory in 2016 was too close. If the district remains the same, Stephanie Dang Murphy  http://www.stephaniemurphyforcongress.com/about/, the first Vietnamese American woman elected to Congress congress, will be a target of Republicans. She defeated a formerly untouchable twelve term congressman in 2016 by a margin of 10,456 votes out of more than 350,000 votes cast — the fifth closest Democratic Congressional winner.

Stephanie Dang Murphy has a BA from William and Mary and a Master’s Degree from Georgetown. She had been a Department of Defense national security analyst and earned a medal for exceptional service after the 9/11 attack. She was the managing director of Sungate Capital, an investment and consulting firm.  She teaches business and social entrepreneurship at Rollins College and is married with two children.

Her story is longer than that, though. Stephanie Dang Murphy was born in Ho Chi Minh City.  Her parents were refugees who escaped from Vietnam by boat when she was an infant. They lived in refugee camps until they were able to come to the United States.  She remembers her mother cleaning office buildings and banks at night, bringing her and her brother to work while she cleaned.  This is a long ways from William and Mary, from Georgetown, and from representing Florida in Congress.

Like several other members of congress in toss up districts, Stephanie Murphy has joined the problem solving caucus — composed of members from both parties who attempt to get past the partisan quarrels.  Of all issues, Stephanie Murphy puts improving the economy and creating jobs at the top of her list.  She argues that economic improvement can be achieved through support for (1) an education system that offers early childhood education and improved science and math education, (2) international trade deals that serve American interests, (3)  fewer regulations that unreasonably limits businesses, especially startups and small businesses, (4) a stronger infrastructure including more “green” energy, (5)  a fairer tax system that eliminates loopholes for corporations while cutting taxes for middle class Americans, and finally (6) by ensuring equality in the workplace for women.

Stephanie DangMurphy http://www.stephaniemurphyforcongress.com/about/   is one more example of an American immigration success story.   She is the kind of Democrat whose election is essential if Democrats are to become a majority in the House of Representatives.  Look at her website.  Learn more about her. And give her your support.
