January 25th , 2025 Len’s Political Note #702 The Senate should not confirm Kimberly Guilfoyle as Ambassador to Greece
2025 Appointments
Kimberly Guilfoyle
Previously, I reported that some analysts have identified four nominees who absolutely should not be confirmed by the Senate. Some have identified five. I identified seven. Nominees who were so inappropriate for the position for which they were nominated, it seemed reasonable that all Democrats would reject confirmation and three or four Republicans could do the same. The first of these 7 has already withdrawn. If the remaining six are confirmed, we will need to take our eyes off Donald Trump once in a while and watch the behavior of his ludicrous and possibly dangerous nominees.
Here are the nominees I identified:
- Attorney General: Matt Gaetz. Reports indicated that he was a drug taking, sexual libertine, about whom there was evidence he had paid at least one underage girl for sex. The reports were so damning, I did not have to write anything. Gaetz withdraw his name from consideration for Attorney General.
- Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Reports indicated that he assaulted women, was publicly drunk, and could not manage the veterans’ organizations that he had been in charge of. The reports were sufficiently damning so it looked like he might have to withdraw his name. But, as the reports go, Trump threatened Hegseth critic and combat veteran with a primary opponent in 2026 if she did not support Hegseth. She is still reconsidering her view of Hegseth as are the other Republican Senators. (There is a report that Hegseth has enough Senators for the nomination. Don’t quit. Oppose him anyhow) Len’s Political Note #687
- National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard Reports indicated that, if she was not a pawn of Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Syria’s Bashar Al-Assad, she acted as if she were one. Some worried that, under her leadership, American intelligence would be funneled directly to Russia and to our enemies in the Middle East. She is considered by some to be the most vulnerable of Trump’s nominees. Len’s Political Note #688
- Education Secretary Linda McMahon The wealthy co-owner of Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment, she has led an organization that glorifies violence; among the least appropriate leadership roles for one of the most important figures for educating America’s children. Len’s Political Note #689
- Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Holds a bizarre collection of beliefs about health and science – from skepticisms about the efficacy of vaccines and the danger of their causing autism to the Covid-19 virus have been bioengineered to avoid affecting Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese to denying that HIV causes Aids to believing that fluoridation of water supplies causes lower IQs to imagining various benefits of raw milk. He does have other ideas that could conceivably make him acceptable to some Democrats – a healthy skepticism about corporate power in the food industry for instance. That skepticism should not be enough to make him acceptable. Len’s Political Note #690
- FBI Director Kash Patel A right wing activist who proposes the use of the FBI as an instrument of revenge against those who have wronged him or Donald Trump. He already has a preliminary list drawn up. Len’s Political Note #691.
- IRS Director Billy Long A former auctioneer and Congressman who most recently has been consulting with businessmen about how to use an Internal Revenue Service benefit intended to help stabilize businesses during the pandemic to benefit post-pandemic businesses at the expense of taxpayers. Len’s Political Note #692
I suggest two others who should be rejected – both proposed ambassadors. When their confirmation comes up it will test the Republicans. The only reason any Senator would vote to confirm would be loyalty to Trump. I have written about one of them — Charles Kushner. See Len’s Political Note #701. Kimberly Guilfoyle is the other prospective ambassador who should be rejected.
As Charles Kushner is an insult to France and has been, the International Herald, an American weekly for the Greek American community said: “ the appointment of Kimberly Guilfoyle as ambassador to Athens offends the dignity of Greeks, both in Greece and in the diaspora, and could negatively impact the relationship between the two countries.”
She “offends the dignity” of the United States as well. It is not just that she angered the Greeks by saying they were lazy, by comparing their need for punishment for failing to solve their debt crisis to a dog that is not properly punished for peeing indoors. Could it be that this nomination is a way for Trump to send his older son’s girlfriend (ex-girlfriend as most reports explain) into exile so she does not interfere with what appears to be a new relationship for Don Jr. Could it be, Donald Trump wants to particularly insult the Greeks and satisfy the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In contrast to Guilfoyle, Trump has named an old friend and fellow real estate investor and son of a Lebanese American Tom Barrack as ambassador to Turkey.
Kimberly Guilfoyle gives every indication of being a sleezy character. That she was once married to Trump bete noire, Gavin Newsom, the Democratic Governor of California, does not enhance her reputation. It diminishes his.
The New Yorker published an article titled “The Secret History of Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Departure from Fox.” Here is The New Yorker article’s author’s introduction to the story: “Media reports suggested that she had been accused of workplace impropriety, including displaying lewd pictures of male genitalia to colleagues, but few additional details of misbehavior emerged. Guilfoyle publicly denied any wrongdoing, and last year a lawyer representing her told The New Yorker that ‘any suggestion’ she had ‘engaged in misconduct at Fox is patently false.’ But, as I reported at the time, shortly after Guilfoyle left her job, Fox secretly paid an undisclosed sum to [her] assistant, who no longer works at the company. Recently, two well-informed sources told me that Fox, in order to avoid going to trial, had agreed to pay the woman upward of four million dollars.”
Read the entire story. What The New Yorker describes is not a one-off instance of bad behavior but a description of characteristic behavior. She has no business representing the United States just as, sadly, Donald Trump has no business serving as President of the United States. Read the entire story. https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/the-secret-history-of-kimberly-guilfoyles-departure-from-fox If you agree, take my advice below.
Contact the following Republican Senators about Guilfoyle, Kushner, and any nominees you would like them to oppose. I especially suggest Pete Hegseth who, as Defense Secretary, could do real damage to the American military. Contact your own Senators as well.
Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky (202-224-2499)
Senator Susan Collins of Maine. (202-224-
Senator Lisa Murkowsky of Alaska. (202-224-2523)
Senator John Curtis of Utah. (202-224-2512)
Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana. (202-224-5824)
Senator Todd Young of Indiana. (202-224-5623)
Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa. (202-224-3254)
Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina (202-224-6342)
Senator John Cornyn of Texas. (202-224-2934)
As I suggested above. Contact your Senators and those Senators who might be willing to offend Donald Trump and reject the nomination of his erstwhile girlfriend in law as Ambassador to Greece. To make such a selection insults the United States and Greece.
Spring Elections Coming up. Now would be a good time to Donate money.
Wisconsin – Election: Primary, February 18, General Election April 1
State Supreme Court
Support Democratic County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford against former Attorney General Brad Schimel. There is no primary for this position. Currently Wisconsin’s Supreme Court has a 4-3 Democratic majority. Susan Crawford is running to replace a Democratic justice who is retiring. A Republican win would give the court a 4-3 Republican majority. This race is crucial for preserving the right to abortion in Wisconsin, for preserving an ungerrymandered state legislature and eliminating voter suppression. See Len’s Political Note #684
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
Support Democratic incumbent Jill Underly in the primary and in the general election. Jill underly serves as a bulwark against right wing culture war positions. See Len’s Political Note #693.
Florida and New York
Florida: Primary January 28, Special Election April 1.
New York’s election will be scheduled after Elise Stefanic is confirmed as Ambassador to the United Nations.
By the time Florida and New York have their elections, Republicans could have a 217-215 majority. Does that mean that a victory in all three elections would create a 218-217 Democratic majority. Accurate, but unlikely. All three districts are heavily Republican. Keeping the Republicans below 60% would be a kind of triumph and encourage Democrats in their planning for 2026 Congressional elections. It is worth donating to reduce the Republican margin and to take the chance that we could get lucky and win one or two of these race.
Florida 01: Gay Valimont is the Democratic nominee. Republicans have to wait for the January 28 primary. Gay Valimont is the former head of the Florida Chapter of Mom’s Demand Action, a gun safety organization. She has returned to politics after two family tragedies. She understands how Republican her district is. She is both courageous and willing to give it her all in a very tough cause. DONATE. See Len’s Political Note #694.
Florida 06: Both the Republicans and the Democrats have to wait until January 28 to know who their nominee is.
New York 21: Neither Democrats nor Republicans have a primary. According to New York law the County chair or chairs select party nominees when there is a vacancy. In this case, there are 15 small counties in rural New York. We simply have to wait to see how this works out.
