Let’s rename US Army installations named for Confederate Generals. Even some Republican Senators are for it.  These generals decided to fight against the United States of America in order to maintain slavery.

The Army installations and who they are named for is below.  These generals vary in effectiveness and courage.  They vary in the extent to which they actively supported slavery and oppressed blacks after the war, but all fought against the United States as did PGT Beauregard.

Fort Benning, near Columbus, Georgia, named after Henry L. Benning, a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army

Fort Bragg in North Carolina named for Confederate General Braxton Bragg (considered by some the least effective Confederate Genera

Fort Gordon in Georgia named for john Brown Gordon (claimed by many to have been a leader in the Ku Klux Klan after the war)

Fort A.P Hill in Virginia named for Confederate Lt. General A. P. Hill.

Fort Hood in Texas named for Confederate General John Bell Hood

Fort Lee in Virginia named for Confederate General Robert E. Lee

Fort Pickett in Virginia named for Confederate General George Pickett who feared post war prosecution for executing deserters

Fort Polk in Virginia named for Confederate Bishop Leonidas Polk a former Episcopal Bishop and a founder of the University of the South (Suwanee)

Fort Rucker in Alabama for Confederate General Edmund Rucker who made a fortune after the war.

Camp Beauregard in Louisiana name for PGT Beauregard who persuaded Jefferson Davis it was time to give up and fought for black suffrage and civil rights after the war.

Here’s a question.  Would you keep the name Camp Beauregard to honor PGT Beauregard’s post war behavior?
