I want someone who sees Americans working together toward common goals, someone who preserves and works through existing institutions, who puts new wine into old bottles.

Trump grasps some similarities between himself and Andrew Jackson.  Trump sees the world as divided.  He sees himself as representing ordinary people (ordinary white people) who have been done in by the educated elite and by minorities

We cannot reasonably expect to shunt all the Syrian refugees to Turkey.  We need to persuade Americans and Europeans about the value of taking a long view and then implementing a process in an orderly way.

The Democratic trifecta led to other reforms as well, but election reforms ensure the retention of all the other reforms.
