Linda Coleman is one of ten children. She worked in the tobacco fields to earn clothing money for school. She went to North Carolina AT&T University and studied education. She taught school, then left for the University of Pittsburgh to get a Master's in Public Policy. She was elected as a Wake County Commissioner before becoming the Director of Human Resources for the Departments of Agriculture and Administration and later Personnel Director for the Department of Community Colleges. She was elected a state representative. Now she is running for the US Congress.

Political Note #141 Anita Earls NC Supreme Court

Anita Earls graduated from Williams College and Yale Law School. From Yale, she joined the Ferguson, Stein Law Firm, a distinguished, predominantly African American firm in Charlotte. She was there for ten years, becoming a partner. Anita Earlsspent two years as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Clinton administration, three years Director of the Voting Rights Project for the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and four years as Director for Advocacy for the University of North Carolina's Center for Civil Rights. From 2007 to 2017, Anita Earls was Executive Director of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice.

Political Report #103 Kathy Manning NC CD 13

Kathy Manning has never held public office. She is good at leadership and raising money. She was the first female president of the Jewish Federation of North America. The JFNA, formed from the United Jewish Appeal and related organizations, is so good at fundraising that one of its roles is to consult about raising money. Kathy Manning and her husband did not limit themselves to Jewish organizations. They have supported civic centers, the arts, and the effort to make Greensboro into a thriving city. Their civic and communal interests precede any political interests. Kathy Manning describes herself as a business-oriented moderate Democrat.

Political Note #85 Dan McCready NC 09

Dan McCready is a great fit for this business oriented district. He joined the marines after finishing at Duke. He had been freshman during 9/11 and had decided on military service. His core memories of the war include leading sixty-five marines into battle during the 2007 surge and being baptized in the Euphrates River. From the Marines, he entered Harvard Business School. He worked for a while as a consultant for McKinsey, then he and a fellow Marine started a business in Charlotte creating solar farms. Now they are owners of the second largest solar farm company in the country. Dan McCready was not satisfied with just one business. He started This Land, a business that sells hand made American goods online.
