Kevin Cavanaugh is a strong Democratic candidate. Senate District 16 includes two wards in Manchester, where he has been an alderman for a year, plus four neighboring towns. He has been an employee in telecommunications for a firm that provides long distance telephone service, data, Internet, broadband, television, business communications solutions and fiber services. His avocation has been in youth sports and community service. He has coached high school football coach and is a regular youth league coach in hockey, soccer, baseball, and softball. His political life has been through the electrical workers' union. He is an officer of his local and, in the primary and the upcoming election, has gained union support from throughout the state.

Annie Kuster was a leading New Hampshire attorney. Known for her work as an adoption attorney, she was also a lobbyist (or as she would call it, a public policy advocate) on behalf of surgical centers, pharmaceutical companies, and investment firms. Kuster's corporate work and connections led her toward the development of private-public partnerships as a Member of Congress -- the NH Medication Bridge program, a public-private partnership to provide free prescriptions to patients in need and the NH UNIQUE College Savings Plan to help families save money for college tax free. Ballotpedia describes Kuster as a moderate, left of center Democrat more likely to break with fellow Democrats than most of her colleagues.
Political Note #14 Carol Shea-Porter NH CD 01
Carol Shea-Porter is a University of New Hampshire graduate with a BA in social services and a Master's Degree in public administration. She graduated from Oyster River High School in New Hampshire. She returned to New Hampshire with her army officer husband and two children and became active in politics -- supporting Wesley Clark for President and subsequently, supporting John Kerry. As a candidate, preceding the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, she refused to take financial support from Corporate PACS or lobbyists. She has relied on small donations and get out the vote efforts. Having won and lost and won and lost this seat, she ultimately withdrew from the 2018 race.
